Bill Gates father always gets asked what it was like to raise a kid like Bill Gates. His father acts like he does not know and tells folks that “he had a great mother.”
All kidding aside, Bill Gates was raised by a father who took him seriously. He really listened to Bill. Bill was very headstrong and rebellious, so much so that his parents hired a counselor to try to set him straight to help him out.The counselor came to Bill’s parents and told them that Bill will win. Mr. Gates and Mrs. Gates let their son rebel. In the end this helped to improve their relationship with each other.
Bill is thankful that his parents treated him as an adult. He attributes this to the confidence he needed and has to succeed in this world. Bill states that his parents would bring up important things at the dinner table to discuss. Both parents spoke to their children at the dinner table as if they were adults and understood what they were sharing. Bill said this type of communication helped him tremendously when he was building Microsoft. This helped him to sell his product to people that were 20 to 30 years older than he was.
Bill thinks that his success is in part due to perfect timing. He said one must also have a “tireless work ethic.”
You and your children can succeed in anything that you put your mind to. Make sure you pour your heart and soul into the career path you have chosen. You will succeed. Your child will succeed.
