Is your business thinking of switching to a four day work week? Instead of working five 8 hour days, you may be considering working four 10 hour days. Or perhaps you can give your employees the option of four 10 hour days or 4 eight or nine hour days? (You will have to check with those who need insurance and how many hours must be worked to get coverage.) By doing so, you can save money with your business. In other words, if you like the idea of working in a restaurant, you have probably invested (or thought about it) in a chain restaurant. Perhaps you are a fitness buff and you invested in a healthy franchise that gets people to work out. You can stay fit while you work!

Work at Home Scam or Not?

There are many work at home business opportunities listed on the Internet these days. How do you know which work at home businesses are legitimate? The first thing to remember is the famous quote, “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.”

Do not fall for ads that get you all excited which of course is what they are supposed to do. They draw you in for the kill. Before you know it you have spent money on a product that does not work. The only person getting rich is the person who started this whole scam in the first place.

How to Fire an Employee

If you are thinking of firing an employee, there are a few steps to follow. The first step is you want to talk to the employee that you are thinking of firing. Privately talk to him/her about things he/she needs to change in order to work at your business. Give him or her a chance to correct the problems.

The second item to take care of is to start documenting things the employee does that are reasons for termination. Some examples include: Constantly coming to work late. Make sure you document the date, time and reason if the employee gives you one. Write up the employee and have the employee sign the sheet as well as you sign the sheet. If the employee does not want to sign the sheet, that is up to the individual. As a union leader once said, “It is imperative that the employee signs the written up document to protect himself/herself. If he/she does not sign it, the employer can repeatedly fill out write ups and who is to say that the employee did or did not see it--he/she regularly did not sign it.”
